Bug #3237 - Unable to select text in MS Office 2007
- Related to: Feature #3241 - Option to elevate synergyc/s when in service mode
Steps to reproduce:
- On a Windows 7 Pro server side run stable synergy-1.4.8 beta
- Open MS Outlook or Word and try to select text using mouse.
- Additionally, some portal take very long time to load and sometimes malfunction.
Expected: Text selected.
Actual: It may work for the first few minutes, but eventually I'm not able to select text with mouse. I can still select text with keyboard. Regarding IE, I was not able to determine a common component between the "broken" portal. It maybe java script.
Versions and operating systems:
Windows 7 x86 Pro, synergy version 1.4.8 beta
Temporary workarounds:
stop synergy service via services.msc applet
Additional comments:
Also, some web portals take long time to load when using IE8 or IE9.
I really can't provide more details about the IE side of the bug. I can't narrow down the commonalities. A lot of times IE "freezes" when I simply type in a url into the address bar and hit enter. Problem completely goes away if I stop the synergy service.

Same issue here. Just to clarify. It works if I click to place the cursor, then hold down Shift and click further down the text. I notice this only happen in text box and text editor like MS Words, MS Outlook. It works fine with MS Excel. It also works fine if the text is readonly, like email messages in Outlook.

I get the same issue in MS Office 2010. There does seem to be a point at which it works. I analysed this and it seems to be after each auto save. Then, once I have changed the document in any way (even adding a space) the issue re occurs

Verified with both Office 2010 (SP1) and 2007 (synergy-1.4.8-beta, Windows 7 Enterprise). Mouse "drag-select" works until you hit any key, then it becomes disabled.

My gut feeling is that Feature #3241 will solve this, since the major change in 1.4.8 is that it runs as SYSTEM user. As a work-around you could try running in desktop mode, but if that doesn't solve it then #3241 probably won't help.

Verified Nick's idea from 12 Jun, thus there is a workaround. After normal installation, open services, stop Synergy service, on LogOn tab change to "This account" and enter credentials, restart. Bug goes away.

Wait; comment #5 not correct. Services restarts and bug goes away but clients cannot connect.
#7
The service needs to be running as system in order to create the synergys/c process. Best not to change the service user :-)

There are lots of issues related to this one. Not sure what the real problem is but this is definitely a HUGE issue and prevents me from using Synergy. I'd vote for this but don't know how.
As said, seems to work sometimes or for a short while.
Other issues are that scrolling Acrobat doesn't work. Also, can't search in Acrobat: click on search but can't type in search box. And as pointed out, clicking links in IE will take forever, makes IE inoperable.
I've tried the 'workaround' of using my credentials with no positive result.
Seems like some sort of meta-key state is wrong. I've tried the standard alt/cntl/shift with no success. I have to shut it down to get it to work.
