Bug #1111 - Ctrl/Alt keys "Stick"
SourceForge user: nobody
Running WindowsXP SP2 Pro on server and client.
Whenever I use the ALT key (alt-tab) or the CTRL
(copy, paste, etc) keys, after I release them, they are
"stuck" down until I press them again. Not physically
stuck, but the computer thinks that they are pressed.
Sometimes, I have to press them at the same time to
correct the problem. I've tried restarting Synergy on
both machines several times and still get this odd
behavior.

I have also experienced this with the Windows key (although
I have no problem copy and pasting with keyboard
combinations, i don't use alt-tab enough to see if that
works or not). To lock my computer, i use Win+L (it's
actually the switch user key, but it effectively locks the
computer). After I log back in, the windows key is stuck
down, and I don't usually realize it until i've already
attempted to type something and had windows pop up (certain
Win+letter key combinations bring up windows such as My
Computer, My Documents, Find/Search, etc., and they start
popping up as I type a sentence lol)
So ANYWAY Synergy needs to be fixed so that after a key
combination has been pressed, all key flags are reset to the
open (unpressed) state.

strange about ctrl/alt. i don't see that problem but i don't doubt that it
happens. if i knew why synergy sometimes doesn't see the key releases i could
possibly fix it, but i don't. and it is sometimes, isn't it? or does this happen
every time you use alt or ctrl?
win+L is a special case. windows prevents synergy from seeing the key release
events for win+L. i have not found an elegant solution.

I have this problem with two seperate setups within my office.
it happes all the time, on client and server machines, even
when the control key has not been pressed.
you can however bang on the control key, (sometimes server
keyboard, sometimes client keyboard) and it will fix this
problem

I've been very happy with 1.3.1, but this key stick issue is
becoming more aggravating by the day. I'm using XP server,
XP client - the Win key seems to stick more than the others.
I usually discover it when I'm typing something on the
client, and the screen locks, or explorer opens etc.
I habitually use WIN+L to lock the screen, so I'm wondering
if that's not the cause.

Hi mates,
(I cross posted to another bug - looks like the same problem
to me)
my fix:
I could reproduce this problem and I found a workaround.
On my winxp sp2 boxen I usually run Taskswitch Pro (V2)- a
great program from http://www.ntwind.com/taskswitchxp/
I love this program so much would have broke my heart if i
had to stop using - found that if I checked the 'Use
low-level keyboard hook to replace Alt-Tab' that it stopped
the phantom Alt key from behind held down.
Hope this helps you out - I've tried this workaround on a
few machines and works ok.
Cheers and beers,
DrDave

We get this on a 3 PC setup (XP SP2) Im also getting random CTRL presses on the server. Very noticable when attempting to draw a box around items or dragging icons etc it will act like i hit CTRL and will copy, move or release my selection. This becomes very annoying when developing VB applications where editing form objects requires dragging things. It seems to be ok after it gets it out of its system, but as soon as you goto another machine or monitor its back.

I have this issue with the right shift key. Yes, only the right shift key. Whenever I enter to the client screen this PC behaves as if the right shift key was pressed and I have to hit that exact key once to get the normal behaviour back - until I leave the screen and enter it again.
The hint above about TaskSwitchPro somehow helped. So far I have to disable TSP and I seem to have a propper synergy behaviour, which makes me very happy.
