What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Have an outlook 2007 SP2 message open in the server PC as the active
window.
2. Move the cursor to a slave pc.
3. Move the cursor back to the server pc, synergy hangs for a while (10
seconds) with high pc, then works like normal.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Switch normally like with every other application.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Microsoft Office 2007 SP2, Windows XP
Please provide any additional information below.
No special plugins used in Outlook 2007.
Thanks in advance.

I'm seeing the same problem on my box. Flipping back and forth is seamless with any app
active. If any window of Outlook is active, I hang on the switch.
One thing I noticed is I installed Outlook SP2 update back in may and I believe my
problem started more recently.
Could it be another update?

One more comment, I just went through the list of what was installed recently and found
"Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (KB969907)". After removing the update, I
don't see a problem with Synergy2 anymore.

I can confirm that removing KB969907 solves the problem. Thanks for investigating the
issue grandcanuck.
Interestingly enough, I reinstalled KB969907 and everything seems to work fine (so far).

I tried removing and re-installing KB969907 and the problem always comes back. Not sure
why.

Just to confirm, is installing KB969907 the fix? Can this issue be set to fixed?
#6
Google user: criptico
No, the problem gets fixed by uninstalling KB969907.
It seems, however, that in some cases you can install it again without any harm for
Synergy (like in my case) and in other cases the problem comes back (like in
Grandcanuck's case).

criptico is correct. Removing KB969907 solves the problem. In my case, as soon as the
update comes back, I start having the same problem again.
So def not fixed.

Ah, I see. OK, I will leave this as accepted.

Removing KB969907 DOES NOT fix the problem on my synergy server.
Returning to my synergy server still drops out.

The following workaround helps on my System! (Win XP / Office 2007)
Using 1.3.3.
Switching on "Don't take forground window on Windows servers" in the Optionen.
#13
Google user: grandcanuck
I have 1.3.1 and I am testing out that option. I was still having problems even after
removing KB969907, the problem came back.

Rene's workaround about don't take foreground works for me. all that seems to do is
keep the window focused when i leave the screen so it doesn't try and refocus when i
come back. (which seems to be the problem.)

a side effect of that workaround is that i had a mstsc.exe window open and it
wouldn't let me type on other screens. debian or xp.

using 1.3.1
that workaround works for me

I'd like to add that the "Don't take foreground window on Windows servers" fixed the
Outlook issue for me, and also whereExplorer etc prevented control passing to the
other screen when performing certain operations (e.g. loading domain list). That had
been driving me nuts!
Server: Windows XPsp3, Synergy+ 1.3.4
Client: Ubuntu 9.04, Synergy+ 1.3.4

Confirming the issue, and also that Jason's workaround works great. My previous
workaround was to hit ctrl+alt+del and then escape and it appeared to drag focus off
the open outlook window...

My previous workaround was the same as ian.mcgowan's, but I can also confirm that
using the "Don't take foreground window on Windows servers" option resolves the issue
with Outlook 2007.
The only thing that makes this not a viable long-term workaround is that I use a
Logitech MX Revolution mouse with the Logitech SetPoint software to enable custom
button functionality when synergy grabs focus as I move to a slave machine. With
this option enabled, Synergy doesn't grab focus on the server, and so some custom
button functionality is not passed to the slave machine at all, but only captured by
the server.
Because of this, I still believe that a code fix for this issue is going to be the
best solution, and am eagerly awaiting it.

The check box "Don't take foreground window on Windows servers" works for me as well.
I'm running Synergy+1.3.4 on my pc and SynergyKM 1.3 on my macbook.
I was also previously using the Alt-Ctrl-Del then Esc to fix the hang.
I second the request by ioeth.trocolar as I also use the custom button setting on my
Logitech mouse.

Thank you all very much for your input and work arounds. I was having the same
problem going from my Ubuntu Synergy client to my Windows XP server which is running
Office 2007. Clicking the 'Don't take ...' box on the server solved my problem
nicely.

Same here 1.3.1. To me is that the problem is not consistent. If I refresh restart
outlook and synergy, everything seems to be working fine. But suddenly, it start to
hang for about 30 seconds when move mouse from client back to the server. During the
time, 1CPU at 100%%. Ctrl+Alt+Del and ESC works for me. And I have been doing it for a
few months before I found this. Yes, clicking the "Don't take ...' box fixed the
issue but same side effects mentioned by others.
Wishing a fix.

I had independently discovered the ctrl-alt-del "workaround", thought I was the only
one with this problem. After spending a couple of months doing this I stumbled upon
this forum. The "Don't take foreground window on Windows servers" works for me. Its
only Microsoft Outlook that seems to have this issue, although I have noticed that
perforce (a SCM versioning tool) sometimes crashes when I move my mouse back on to the
machine running perforce (Only crashes when a changelist window is open).

I'd like to let everyone know that while checking off the option does fix this problem, it causes the keyboard focus to not always follow the mouse. I have a choice between this issue and an issue with remote desktop where the keyboard focus stays on the Windows machine until I click on a window other than the remote desktop window.
