I had Synergy 1.3.7 running beautifully on my Windows XP (Server) and Windows 7 (Client).

Then I uninstalled my Bitfender anti-virus, and installed AVG. AVG then saw Synergy as a threat, and confined it to some depository or other. I tried re-installing Synergy but without success. The installer said it couldn't open the .exe file for writing, as well as synrgyhk.dll.

I tried going back to a previous restore point. This didn't help. I cannot now either properly un-install synergy now, or properly install. I am SAD!

Please give me some tips (or just condolences).

OK. The problem is solved. Phew. All I had to do was delete the Synergy directory after uninstalling the program. This allowed me to reinstall the software successfully.
