Server: Win7 with German keyboard Client: Ubuntu 11.10 Synergy: V1.3.7

Things did work fine with Ubuntu 11.04. After the update to Ubuntu 11.10 the Linux client does not show German keyboard characters any more. It seems to think that an English keyboard is connected to the synergy server. They German keyboard connected to the Ubuntu system works just fine!

I am experiencing the same with danish keyboard layout :-(

Verified with norwegian keyboard - seems like the US layout is propagated to the client.

Server:

Windows 7 Ultimate, Norwegian keyboard layout
  synergys.exe (1.3.6)

Client:

  Ubuntu 11.10
  synergyc 1.3.6
    2011-10-18T18:43:46 (null): synergyc 1.3.6, protocol version 1.3

I have exactly the same problem.

However, at a second glance, this seems to be a Ubuntu specific issue. I noticed that accidentially my synergy package did not even get updated, due to a custom version I was using. Since the problem started after the upgrade but with still the same version, I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with synergy itself.

Still, some help would be highly appreciated.

Same here, Win7 x64 server with Ubuntu 11.10 client, both physical keyboards are with Italian layout but when i write from server to client input is taken as english keyboard layout. Problem started after upgrade from Ubuntu 11.04 to Ubuntu 11.10

I do understand that some instability is to be expected in a beta build. If I remember correctly, however, I was having this issue on 1.3.x as well. I didn't include that wow gold in my original post because I don't remember which specific version I was on.

I had this same problem with my setup where both the server and client where running Ubuntu 11.10. This workaround solved the problem for me:

  1. Search for "Keyboard Layout" and open it.
  2. Use the plus sign on the bottom left of the screen to add the keyboard layout "English(US)".
  3. Restart synergy

This should add an icon to your notification area, displaying what keyboard layout is selected.

I have no idea why this works, but I found the workaround here: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=580504

Yeah this finally works for me too! I had to add one more keyboard layout on the client side (not sure if it is matters what to choose here, just add one), then change it at the notification area, and immediately change it back to my German layout.

After that, go to the server and force a reconnect. Now everything works!
