Now that all the developer and tech preview releases of Windows 8 are starting to come out, it would be nice to get a jump on that for adding Win8 support to Synergy. I tested it on a Dev Preview of Win8 and it wouldn't connect due to the error "Failed to connect to server: Incompatible Client 1.3".

Take care.

I was having this issue at first as well. Updating both machines to Synergy 1.4.5 fixed the problem and allowed a connection to be made. I am still unable to click on administrator level windows but the basic functionality works.

I have installed 1.4.5 but the software looks not compatible with Windows 8, is any new beta out that is working with 8?

Thanks

Switch to the x86 version and all will be well.

I have 1.4.8 installed and had the same problem with being unable to access administrator level windows initially: I solved it by setting the synergy client to always run as administrator as well.

The client service is preventing my laptop from going idle. No dimming, no sleep, no hibernation.

I also have the issue with "administrator level windows". I tried setting the account for the service to be an administrative account, but I do not believe that this is what you mean by "run as administrator".

I managed it to work with a Windows 8 as a server and a Windows 7 as a guest, using on both Synergy 1.4.12 for Windows (64-bit). It didn't however worked with the default settings, I needed to switch both of them to desktop mode and the connection only worked after killing the service processes and while keeping the server (windows 8) synergy's window open.

So, if you need to use a windows 8 machine for now as a server you will need to use the legacy (desktop) configuration, kill the service processes (synergys and synergyd) and keep the synergy open (can be minimized, but not on the tray only).
