I'm planning on having a PC and MacBook Pro hooked up to my single Samsung monitor, which has multiple inputs. Everything I've read about Synergy seems to suggest it only works with multiple monitors. Can I not share the mouse and keyboard with the computers using Synergy by just switching between the video inputs?

Synergy is designed to remove a significant amount of clutter by sharing a single keyboard and mouse across multiple systems. The caveat is that each system has to have a dedicated screen. You would probably benefit from a kvm switch over synergy for your setup.
