I'm having the same problem. Even when both the network cards on my client machine are disconnected from their networks, Help -> About Synergy -> IP is showing me an incorrect address of 169.254.59.59.

actually I ran into the same problem. I uninstalled 1.4 and installed 1.3.8 and everything is working.

@Hunding That makes me really sad to hear, that you downgraded just to fix a bug as superficial as this.

@nbolton I don't mean to make you sad, but your answer does not really fix the issue. the ipconfig /all does nothing more than display some information. I tried several searches to fix the issue before the uninstall, but it seemed that the issue is fairly isolated. I would be happy to put 1.4 in as it has the feature that will allow me to stack my monitors and I was very excited to use this.

If you look carefully, some information contains an IP address. Anyway, this won't matter in future versions because I plan to make it so you don't even need to know your IP address :) -- it will have an auto-detect feature.

I've had this problem too while running synergy 1.4.8 in client mode. It doesn't connect to the server and thinks it's IP address is 169.254.45.18 (actual IP address is in 192.168.1.x range) when I click "About Synergy". Is there some sort of way to stop it from autodetecting the client IP address, and instead inputting a value manually?

The displayed IP (169.254.45.18) will not affect anything. Your connection problems will be caused by something else, such as your firewall being configured to block Synergy or some other networking issue.

OK. SO I re-installed 1.4 and this time I did not even look at the "about" screen to see what IP address it thought I had. I tried to connect my client to the servers IP address but it would not work. So just for giggles, I tried the secondary network (wireless) and presto it worked.

Perhaps I am running a unique server set-up with multiple NICs but it would sure be nice if I could tell the server not only what port to listen on but also which IP address the server uses. Regardless, you have an incredible product, and I certainly had no intentions of offending you. Thanks for the great software.

I can confirm the same problem with the newest beta (1.4.8). The IP displayed is wrong and the Client fails to connect. Granted i have a little bit of a complicated network setup (VM network cards installed etc,) but the IP displayed matches none of the networks.

It would be great if there is a way to change the IP.

Downgrading to 1.3.8 helps as it is possible to connect the clients to the server but 1.3.8 does not work smoothly with my setup for unknown reasons so i had great hopes for 1.4.8.

The IP displayed is linked to your adapter priority. You can reorder the list in advanced settings (google "Windows 7 Network Adapter Binding Priority"). Once I did that the IP displayed correctly and the client connected to the server. It still times out but at least I know it's not an issue with which IP it's choosing.

To find your IP address, on your Windows machine open the Command Prompt program and run ipconfig.
