Synergy works great for me and I have no problem setting it up just how I want it.
However, I'm on the point of going back to two keyboards and two mice because this problem is driving me crazy -- every few minutes the connection drops out for a few seconds.
Very often I will lose half a sentence or so when typing on the client because of this. Suddenly the mouse is back on the server computer somewhere, the keystrokes have gone to heaven, and when I try to drag the mouse back to the client it won't go across. This lasts for about ten or fifteen seconds and then all is fine again.
My server is Ubuntu 10.4 running on a Toshiba Satellite and the client is a Sony Vaio running Windows Vista. I have no other network connectivity problems that I am aware of.

This is usually caused by a problem with your network. If you're using wifi, try using a wired LAN connection. If you're already using wired LAN, check that your network switch device is working properly.
There is also a small chance that it could be your firewall, but this is not usually the case.

keep pinging from ubutnu. When you get the trouble check if pings fail. Connection drops cause a lag, which synergy increases by re-searching the server only every 1 minute interval.
