Hello. First time poster here.

I have the synergy on my, and my wife's computer. The only way I can get it to work is to run the server on her PC, and client on my PC. This will allow her to move her mouse onto my 2 monitors. The problem I am having is, when I run the server on my computer, they won't connect.

All the tutorials I have come across seem to be of an older version. So, I have missing steps. The error I'm getting on my wife's PC when trying to connect to me as the server is " Failed to connect to the server: Server refused client with our name."

We are both using vista ultimate/64bit

Thank you in advance for your help.

I get this as well. Name is correct, I've also tried aliases. Telnet from client to server works. It was working perfectly before but now I get the "Failed to connect to the server" error.

client is CentOS 6.2, server is Windows 7

Make sure you can ping the server from the client. If you're using a firewall, then you may have to either add an exclusion for the Synergy port (24800) or disable your firewall temporarily.

Edit: From the comments, turns out the answer is to make sure the client screen name on the server configuration is correct.

I turned off Firewall. Forwarded Port 24800. Same problem.

Are you able to ping your PC from your wife's PC, and vice versa?

Yes. Pings go from server to client, and client to server.

Hmm, ok, when you're running the server. Open the command prompt and type: netstat -ano

... see if a row beginning with TCP 0.0.0.0:24800 appears in the list. If so, from the client PC, use PuTTY in telnet mode to connect to this port. If it's working, it should say "Synergy". If you're unable to see the port in netstat, then it's maybe a config or security problem. If you can't connect then it's a network problem.

I figured out the problem. I'm embarassed to say that I mispelled my wife's Screen name. so that it's probably why it did not allow a user with their name. So all is good now. Thank you very much for your assistance!
