Hello! a few weeks ago I used synergy (then, at least on one pc it was synergy+ - I guess) and it worked - back then I had: WinVista (Server) WinXP (Client) Now: Win7 and WinVista - I tired both ways, Win7 as client and as server but nothing worked, the only difference between both configurations were the error messages... i also tried to run it on a virtual machine (XP) same error (also on a 2nd virtual machine,XP, but both XP couldn't connect) in Win7 and Vista I turned the firewalls of... same result...

the error messages:

WARNING: a client with name "....." is not in the map

Synergy 1.4.2: Not connected: Failed to connect to server: server refused client with our name

Synergy 1.4.2: Not connected: Failed to connect to server: The attempt to connect was forcefully rejected

any help? thanks:)

Please accept my answer if it is correct.

The problem is that your client is claiming have a host name different to that in your server configuration.

In this error message:

Error: a client with name "....." is not in the map

... I notice you replaced the client hostname with "....." -- this is the name you want to use in your server configuration.

Alternatively, to solve this you can either use the -n argument when launching synergyc (to specify a custom client name), or if you're still stuck, you can make sure that you're using the correct client name (on your client, go to System Properties in Windows and look for "Computer name").

you mean I should make sure that I use the correct server name? the names are correct, I also tried the IP-addresses... on the first one (the computer which keyboard and mouse i will use to control the other computer) I check the upper box where it says "server" on the other one (the one I want to control) I check the box "Client" and in the field I put in the name of the other PC (the first one)

did I miss something else?

btw: VNC and teamViewer is working just fine

(18 Jun '11, 07:39) LeSeigneur

The problem is that your config is wrong. Please correct your config to use the correct client names. I'm not sure what VNC and TeamViewer have to do with this, but good job! ;-)

nbolton ?? : i mentioned VNC and TeamViewer to show that there is no problem with the network itself

nbolton ?? : I don't use a config... I use the "configure interactively"

and your "correct your config to use the correct client names" isn't very helpful... I am using the correct names... the name names I entered in Windows as the name of my computer, which is also the same I type after "\" (e.g. \COMPUTERNAME) to access it.

I now installed the newest version: 1.4.4. (before i did that i deleted the old one and also deleted every reference to synergy from the registry)

I get the same error messages:

from the SERVER

accepted client connection
disconnecting client "CLIENT"
client "CLIENT" has disconnected

a client with name "CLIENT" is not in the map

and from the CLIENT

connecting to 'SERVER': 192.168.0.128:24801

server refused client with name "CLIENT" failed to connect to server: server refused client with our name

any suggestions how to fix it?

found it, fixed it :D
