I have two pc's both running xp pro. I have installed the service on both the client pc and the server pc. I want to know 2 things: 1-can I configure synergy so that I can use just the one keyboard and mouse to log into Windows on both pc's? (I use password to log into windows, as these are my office pc's and security is essential) Or will I have to use the client pc's keyboard and mouse to log into windows first before synergy will start? If yes to first question, how do I actually configure that auto start set up? I have read the auto start config directions, however they are outdated in the sense they do not match the current version's options. |

You can install as a service; go to Edit -> Services and click Install on either client or server. Edit: After some discussion, it seems that hogeew wants to use both computers as servers, so that each computer can control the other. This is not supported in version 1, but is planned for version 2. I take it you didn't read the previous comment I made before answering. I stated I have already installed the service on the server as well as on the client. What I am asking is how to avoid having to use the client pc's keyboard and mouse to log into Windows when I first start that pc? The client service is up and running once I log into Windows on the client pc, however I cannot use the keyboard and mouse from the server pc that I want. Isn't there a way to use only one keyboard and mouse even during boot up?

Are you saying that when running as a service, you're unable to control the client when it's at the login screen? Please try to keep your reply to the point -- I have a short attention span and not a lot of time.

Yes, that is what I am saying. I have installed the client service, as well as the server service, on each pc, yet for some reason the client pc won't let me use the server pc's keyboard and mouse to log into Windows. The service is running tho, because once I log into windows, synergy works, and I can use the server mouse and keyboard. I don't have to start synergy on the client pc ever. I just can't log into windows without using the client pc's keyboard.

The client can not control the server. Are you sure you're describing the problem accurately?

I am not sure of anything regarding how synergy works. I am a newbie. That being said, I have the service installed on the server pc and the service installed on the client pc. All I am trying to achieve is setting it up correctly so that I can use the server pc's keyboard and mouse exlusively, including logging into windows each morning when I first boot up both pc's. Is that possible? Or will I have to use the client pc's keyboard and mouse to log into windows on that pc?

I've updated my answer. This is not supported right now, but should be possible in version 2.

What version of windows are you using? Do you have administrator rights? If you do you can install synergy as a service and that will allow you to login on the client logon screen.
I am using xp pro version of windows. I have admin rights on both. I have installed the service on server pc and installed the service on client pc. but so far, when I boot up both pc's, I still must use the client pc's keyboard and mouse to log into windows at the sign on screen, where I'd like to use the server pc's keyboard and mouse to do that.
