IPC connection error

We are getting the Error "IPC connect error, connection refused" What are some of the possible solutions?

I am also getting the same error message. Below the error message it says "Synergy is starting" so I would assume that the client is not connecting. Any help would be appreciated as I am a complete novice, but require the additional screen for work.
