I have a question about a potentially similar set up and am just looking for confirmation that this would work.

I would like to use one display with a KVM only for switching video between a Windows XP desktop and a MacBook Air. I was then hoping to use Synergy to enable use of the Apple bluetooth keyboard and magic trackpad for both systems. With only one display, I'm guessing I would just have to slide my mouse cursor into the currently displayed system's view?

  1. Would this work?
  2. Also could the MacBook do all this from clamshell mode?
  3. And one super-noob question as I've not yet tried Synergy. Is the keyboard only active for the system that contains the mouse cursor? I'd hate to rattle off some Mac keyboard shortcut and have something funky get typed out on the PC.

Thanks for any answers.

Using Synergy for video is not possible, and probably never will be, sorry.

If I understand your question correctly, you would be using it the same way that I am, which is to use the KVM switch to just switch video, and it works great. I have a Linux box with the keyboard and mouse plugged in, and a Win7 box, both on a dual display Belkin KVM switch. The only drawback to this setup is that I have to use the buttons on the KVM switch to switch displays as, obviously, the keyboard shortcut doesn't work. But otherwise, it works like a charm.
