Can I use an IP address or a hostname as the client ID? If so, what would be the correct format to use? Should I enter it in like "<my_machine_name>" or "192.168.2.2"? I can't seem to get one computer to see the other one, even though I am viewing one PC from the other using "join me".
I have 2 computers that both connect through the same router, though they are in different rooms. I have so far been unable to see one or the other. I do not have home sharing set up or anything like that.
First, you should make sure you can ping the server from the client using it's IP address. You may have to turn off a firewall on the server in order to do this.
Once you are able to connect using a program other than Synergy (e.g. ping), then you can start configuring Synergy. To answer your question: When configuring the server, you would normally use the client's hostname when adding screens to your configuration (on Windows, you can find this by going to system properties).
