main screen saver doesn't activate

I am running three lubuntu linux systems and linking them using synergy, I also have the screen savers linked. I have discovered that unless my mouse is on the server system then the server computers screen saver and other power saving features will never activate. If the mouse is on the server screen then it correctly controls the screen saver on all three machines.
