Hi all I have searched the Q/A for 2 days, I am using win 7 64x 1.4.8 as my server, and win 7 32x 1.4.8 as my client. I have to have a log in and with Win 7 have to press Control Alt Delete to get the log in prompt. I have to keep adding a second keyboard to get it to log in. I have tried to create a hot key to emulate on the key stroke on the client but zero luck. What am I missing?

I did more reading, and I found that ctrl-alt-break is supposed to work on the clients. I can use that sequence on my win XP SP3 client but I cant get it to work for my Win 7 SP1 laptop. I am using synergy 1.4.8 beta

the problem is that the win7 client blocks the remote commands from the login screen. i fixed this a few weeks back, and im trying to remember how i did it (trying it again on another pc). will update you as soon as i recall how it worked :)

In order for ctrl+alt+del to function on Windows 7 or Server 2008, group policy needs to allow software (like Synergy) to generate the Secure Attention Sequence. To configure this use group policy editor snap-in in mmc and configure

Local Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Logon Options

to "Enabled" with the option "Services and Ease of Access applications".

  1. To edit you Local Computer Policy (instead of Group Policy) use gpedit.msc, which you can open from the Run dialog (Windows key + R).

  2. In GPEdit, browse to "Local Computer PolicyComputer ConfigurationAdministrative TemplatesWindows ComponentsWindows Logon Options" and then edit "Disable or enable software Secure Attention Sequence"

  3. Enable and then select "Services and Ease of Access applications" from the dropdown menu.

Didn't work for me, but that might be because my client computer is on a domain and I'm not a domain admin.

Update: Correction, it is working now! Some where between enabling it on the server (Windows 8 Pro 64-bit) and the client (Windows 7 64-bit) and running "gpupdate /force" on the client (ran it before, but wasn't on the VPN at the time to access the domain) I can now use Ctrl-Alt-Break to CAD on the client. Thank you help (finally) make this work.

Ctrl-Alt-Del key combination is recognized by the Windows OS and it does not let any other process handle it. So I doubt synergy is even able to detect that key combination.

If your logon process is not dictated by a domain administrator, you could change it to not require ctrl-alt-del. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308226

Here's some more reading from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Control-Alt-Delete
