Greetings: The program is having difficulty finding my sole client. I am attempting to connect a server (Dell Windows 7 pro with 2 monitors) and client (Dell Precision M4600 with Windows 7 pro). I am using the desktop startup mode. The only unusual item here is that both computers are connected to a Cisco 5 port Ethernet switch which is wired to the router (which may here be a red herring). I am using the IPv4 addresses supplied by ipconfig.

When I attempt to "start", Synergy logs as follows: 1) starting server, 2) config file: c:/Users/MyName/AppData/LocalTemp/qt_temp.em5916, 3) log level: NOTE, 4) NOTE: started server, waiting for clients, and then it just sits there with the lower left corner note reading Synergy is Starting. If I remove alias names for the server and client and start over, the program first tries to start the client and then times out. Thanks in advance for your help.

My apologies. I omitted the details of the second failure sequence mentioned above with no alias names in tow. I'm using the interactive client setup. Note that the DellPrec2011 is NOT my server -- it's the client.

1) starting client

2) config file: C:/Users/J***/AppData/Local/Temp/qt_temp.Gg5916

3) log level: NOTE

4) NOTE: started client NOTE: connecting to 'DellPrec2011': 192.168.2.7:24800

5) WARNING: failed to connect to server: Timed out

Thanks.

Well, there's the good new and bad news. The good news is that I've bypassed all of the above issues of weird error messages. The bad news it that I can easily set up the server reading "Looking for client" and the client reading "Looking for server". The network is intact. It may be the CISCO switch or something else, but I'm giving it a rest. Thanks to those of you who looked at the question. -- J

Problem solved. Remember how TV's don't work unless you plug them in? Well, I forgot to install Synergy on the client. In addition, not being a network expert, I had a little difficulty convincing Synergy to take the ISP for the client's server notation. After several tries it now works well.
